GOLF AT FRENCH LICK RESORT
A golf enthusiast's paradise.
Few things get the blood pumping like the mention of Donald Ross, Pete Dye and Tom Bendelow in the same sentence. Nowhere else in the world can a golfer play courses designed by each of these noted and prolific designers at one resort destination.
THE PETE DYE COURSE AT FRENCH LICK
Selected as the site for the 2010 PGA Professionals National Championship, The Pete Dye Course has been carved into the hillsides to create a unique and scenic golf experience. World-renowned golf course designer Pete Dye, often called the “Greatest Modern Day Architect,” sketched his early vision for a special sort of golf course in French Lick on a napkin at a local restaurant.
His vision is now being etched into the hilltops near West Baden Springs Hotel, and in 2009 the 18-hole Pete Dye Course at French Lick will open as one of the premier championship courses in the Midwest.Having built courses all over the world including great coastal sites, this course arguably could be considered Dye’s best inland site offering golfers 30-mile panoramic views of the countryside in all directions.
Selected as the site for the 2010 PGA Professionals National Championship, the Pete Dye Course is being carved into the hillsides. Dye aims for this to be a “walkable” course, but golfers are sure to feel Dye’s signature sting as they tee off from vista to vista on this 18-hole masterpiece.
COURSE HIGHLIGHTS:
With the course located in the rolling hills of French Lick, construction crews are clearing land, changing grades as much as 50 feet and strategically routing holes to effectively construct the course on this severe terrain.
Thomas Taggart’s turn-of-the-century mansion will serve as the course’s clubhouse and full service pro shop. Taggart was the famed owner of the French Lick Springs Hotel and Chairman of the National Democratic Party. The mansion is perched atop the area’s highest point at almost 1,000 feet above sea level.
THE DONALD ROSS COURSE AT FRENCH LICK
Originally completed in 1917 by world-renowned architect Donald Ross, this legendary course has been home to many regional and national tournaments, including the 1924 PGA Championship. The course underwent an incredible transformation in collaboration with the Donald Ross Society. Course Highligh
Course Highlights:
- The return of 35 original bunkers featuring Ross' trademark flat bottoms and deep, gnarly faces

- Medal Tees. The course plays to 7,000 yards. The length coupled with the original Par 70 will test even the game's best players.
- Additional native area doubles the current native area to 60 acres, increasing the penalty for an errant shot
- 7-foot-wide cart paths and extensive irrigation system
THE VALLEY LINKS
Dedicated golfers might look past a nine-hole golf course, but not when it is a conversion of the original 18-hole Tom Bendelow Valley Links adjacent to the French Lick Springs Hotel. Golfers are certain to take notice of the championship tee length of nearly 3,500 yards! The Valley Links gives golfers of all skill levels and ages a fun and challenging place to play in the hotel backyard. Fun for the entire family.
French Lick Resort partnered with U.S. Kids Golf, the premier junior golf company in the country, to develop a Family Course program. The course is the second of its kind in Indiana. The course is for families wanting to enjoy a round of golf together without pressure or intimidation from other golfers. It’s designed specifically for kids and beginners by cutting the yardage in half. There are two sets of tee markers: level one measures 1,100 yards and the yellow tees measure 1,900 yards. The course also includes two par 3's, five par 4's and two par 5's. Course Highlights
